2026 SMOC Maybury Score O + Marriage Counseling

2 Part event

Part 1: 1 hour Score O event, 14 controls get as many as you can in any order. Mass Start @12pm, check in/maps @ 1130-1145am. Finish by 1pm!

Part 2: 1 hour Marriage Counseling event starting @ 1:30pm with individual team starts at a 1-2 minute interval from other teams, so that we can finish by approximately 3pm to begin flag pickup once last runner is completed.

This will be a 2 person team relay using cell phones to communicate and guide each other while running the course. There will be 2 short point to point courses of 8 controls of approximately 2.7k each, at roughly orange level difficulty. 1 teammate will remain at the S/F with the map as the clue giver for the 1st leg, while the other teammate will be the runner. The teammates will only be connected by a cellular phone call. The runner will not have the map and only be guided by the clue giver. The clue giver will provide verbal directions over the phone to the runner, while the runner gains CPs and provides feedback on their location. Good communication will lead to fast and fun legs, bad communication may cause some delays and reroutes, hence why we are labeling this format Marriage Counseling! The runner will complete the 1st leg back at S/F, and then teammates will swap roles for the 2nd leg of the course, so that both teammates will take on both roles. The 2 courses combined should be roughly a 1 hour event.

Some items to note:

• We have chosen Maybury specifically for this location as you are never more than ~75m from a trail.
• It may seem intimidating but good communication between teammates allow this to be a fun challenge.
• We have tested and confirmed good cell phone service for Verizon & ATT at the park, crystal clear the entire time.
• We recommended ear buds, probably wired to avoid losing.
• The clue giver must stay in the S/F area, but can spread themselves out from other clue givers. Speakerphone will not be allowed at S/F.
• The runner can not review the map at all, only receive clues on directions over the phone.
• Each teammate must take on both roles of clue giver and runner, swapping roles at the mid point, the order is up to the teammates.
• We plan to have a live replay going of livelox for any spectators that want to stick around after the Score O and watch the fun. We'll ask runners that want to participate to have a livelox going on their phone via the livelox app.
• The Score O and Marriage Counseling will be separate parts of the map and different controls from each other, entirely separated by design.
