Map: Kensington Sprint Playfields

Kensington Playfield Center Sprint will offer a short course (approx. 2.5K), a middle course (approx. 3.2K), and a combined/map exchange (approx. 5.7K).

Short Course: will take you through open park areas.

Middle and Combined: will add in wooded areas.

Start anytime between 5:00 and 7:00; the course closes (flag pickup begins) at 8:00 pm.

**"Sprint" defined: Orienteering sprint courses don't require you to actually sprint. :-) Sprints are shorter courses and typically in urban areas.

Youth O-Challenge

As part of the event, we are excited to expand our reach to youth and youth organizations through the Youth O-Challenge. It will include:

SMOC swag for Youth O-Challenge Participants

Open to any age (1-20 years), on any of the courses: Short, Middle, or Combined

Orienteering Games and Activities:

For the Youngest Orienteers: String Course, Animal O, and Toddler Scramble

For the Older Orienteers: Cone Grid-O and Maze-O

**Lessons available. Please come early and learn about the sport of orienteering and map reading.

**Check out our flyer and share with others: Youth Event Flyer

Please register by Monday night, 6/28 11 pm, to avoid extra fees and ensure we can print you a map.

We charge per "start"/group ($10, reduced to $5 for members with coupon code SMOCMEMBER (if you are on the member list here! Not on the list? Join here. If a member of another OUSA club, please use RECIPROCAL), not per person, so if you have extra folks in your party, just have them fill out online waiver. An extra map is another $5. Interested in racing for free? Ask us about volunteer opportunities like flag pickup, giving a lesson, etc.

NOTE: As Kensington is part of the Huron-Clinton Metropark, you'll need a Metropark Pass: You can get a day pass or an Annual Pass Landing – Public – Huron-Clinton Metroparks

We have loaner compasses if you don't have one.

What is orienteering?

Using a detailed topographic map, navigate to a series of checkpoints (in order for this event). Race competitively, or enjoy a relaxing nature hike with family or friends - the choice is yours! The route between checkpoints is also your choice - take a longer trail option, or head off cross country across hills and over logs...you decide!
